Wine Appreciation Group
BY Lynne Blair, Rosemary Cook, Teresa Cosco
Hello All Fellow Wine Lovers! It’s sign-up time again and we will have our pencils sharpened and wine appreciation sign-up sheet ready for you.
The majority of wine appreciation groups continued to meet over the summer. One of the three groups hosted an evening featuring “Wicked Whites” and “Racy Reds”. Another enjoyed savouring the “Best of Best” wines of the year. In all cases new friendships were struck and members discovered new wines to enjoy.
This season we have changed things up a bit. For instance, we are asking people to indicate their personal preferences with regard to per person wine tasting costs (up to $15 or $15 plus); focus of wine tasting (tasting techniques, wine & food parings; tasting a variety of wines) or whether you just enjoy trying a variety of wines and are happy to join any group. We will use this information to do our best in placing people together with other members who share their particular interests as well as in mixing the groups so we all have an opportunity to meet new members. In addition, it will be up to each group to decide on the timing, menu (appetizers, dinner or a combination) and per person wine tasting cost of these events. As in the past, the host will choose and purchase the wine for their gathering with guests reimbursing the host at the event.
So if you enjoy trying new wines, learning wine tasting techniques, pairing food with wines, tasting a variety of wines while socializing, or, are interested in leading a wine appreciation group this season or we invite you to sign up for a wine appreciation group at the Probus general meeting on Thursday, 28 September.
