At our March meeting, Probus members Evelyn and Rod Keith shared their experiences and relationship with Servas, a non-profit international peace and friendship organization that they have been involved with since 2000. Servas was started in Denmark after World War II. The founders believed that if individuals were encouraged to get to know folks from other countries and share hospitality with them, the resulting cross-cultural links could become an important force in helping maintain world peace. In simple terms, Servas hosts provide short-term free accommodation and meals for travellers. Hosts and guests are encouraged to share their culture, customs, beliefs and food and drink.
