Probus – Last Monday of the Month Book Club

9/22/2017

During the summer months, the Probus Last Monday of the Month Book Club read Melanie Benjamin's ‘The Aviator's Wife’, Erik Larson's ‘Dead Wake’, and Ed Yong's, ‘I Contain Multitudes’. The latter resulted in a very lively discussion as the members discussed what they had learned about Ed Yong's description of the inner workings of our bodies from his viewpoint as a biologist journalist. The book contained complex concepts of ourinner environments written in a way that the ordinary person can understand. Using metaphors and humour, the book"grabbed people and opened up their eyes to our inner workings."
In September, we will read Lion by Saroo Brierly, the story of the young boy from India who after becoming lost in India was adopted by a family from Australia. Years later, Saroo finds his way back home to his family in India. Saroo's story also became a successful film in 2017.
Attendance and discussion at Book Club remains lively and engaged. In December we will be selecting our books for 2018 – where did the year go?
