Home Deus: A Brief History of Tomorrow by Yuval Noah Harari
Meeting dates and times: The group will meet 4 times during the winter (2025) on January 14, February 4, February 25 and March 18. Each evening will begin at 7 PM and last 1 ½ to 2 hours.
If there is sufficient interest… an afternoon One Book - Book Club discussion group will be added on Wednesdays Jan. 15, Feb. 5, Feb. 26, Mar. 5. The afternoon meetings would start at 1:30 pm.
Location: The meeting will be hosted in the Activity Leader’s home in Comox and by other participants who may be interested in hosting.

Many books are rich with ideas that are difficult to discuss in sufficient depth in just one book club meeting. The goal of the One Book – Book Club is to focus more on the ideas brought forth by the author, rather than a book critique. Through lively, friendly and focussed discussions, participants in the One Book - Book Club meet to gain a greater understanding of the ideas presented in the book. This year, the One Book – Book Club will focus on one book that is read over the course of four meetings.
This year’s book selection is Homo Deus: A Brief History of Tomorrow by Yuval Noah Harari. This book has received much critical acclaim. It contains a wide variety of ideas that merit discussion, is written in an engaging style and was selected because of the wide variety of ideas that merit discussion. It has sold 9 million copies.
The book Homo Deus: A Brief History of Tomorrow is a book about the future of humankind, wherein Harari explores how technology and biology will shape our lives. It delves into topics such as immortality, happiness, the role of religion, and the role of all humanity in a modern world.
Before signing up for the One Book – Book Club, you should do a little research of your own to determine if Homo Deus: A Brief History of Tomorrow is a book you would enjoy reading and discussing over an extended period of time. You could read some on-line reviews and excerpts from the from the book.
The One Book – Book Club may be of interest to individuals who would enjoy:
- reading a speculative account of the future of humanity
- discussing one book over the course of 4 meetings, beginning in January 2025
- discussing an author’s perspective that may contradict currently held societal or personal beliefs
- listening and discussing in a non-judgemental fashion, the perspectives of other book club participants
This book is available in audiobook format. There is a cap of 8 participants. Participants will be asked to read about a quarter of the 450 or so page book before each meeting.
