Paddlers Explore Discovery Passage

8/1/2025

Four enthusiastic members of the Probus Paddlers Group launched from Tyee Spit and embarked on a scenic 5 km journey northward to Duncan Bay, the historic site of the Elk Falls Paper Mill which ceased operations in 2010. Along the way, we encountered brisk winds, lively currents, and a flurry of activity from passing boats and taxiing floatplanes—making it one of our more challenging outings this year.

At Duncan Bay, we were fortunate to meet a demolition worker who shared insights into the ongoing dismantling of the mill. He told us that the towering chimney—an enduring local landmark—is slated for demolition by explosives in October.
