"Let's Take a Walk!" through the Northeast Woods

6/5/2026

The Northeast Woods delivered a giant surprise for the “Let’s Take a Walk!” group of 11 this week. Just when the crew thought they were in for a standard walk, they crossed paths with a magnificent, full-sized Western Painted Turtle basking along the trail. As the only turtle species native to the Comox Valley, these endangered creatures are incredibly rare, making the encounter an absolute delight.

Thanks to some quick reflexes, Brenda managed to snap a perfect photo of the colorful celebrity alongside its fascinated group of onlookers, cementing another memorable moment for our walking group.
