Beer Appreciation Group goes to "The Dark Side"

On Friday, March 27, eighteen members of the Beer Appreciation Group gathered at the home of David and Mary Anderson for an evening themed “The Dark Side.” The lineup featured ten darker‑style beers—Stouts, Porters, and Dark Lagers—most brewed on Vancouver Island or in the Lower Mainland. A notable outlier was a rich dark lager from the Czech Republic, adding an international touch to the tasting.

While the beers shared familiar roasted and malty characteristics, the group’s more discerning palates picked up on plenty of subtle—and occasionally bold—differences in flavour and finish. As always, participants brought an impressive spread of snacks, ensuring no one went hungry as the tasting progressed.

It was a warm, lively evening enjoyed by all, and anticipation is already building for the next event.
